Post New to Axe Warrior need some tips

I have recently set my Gold Shocking Forked Sword of Defense down and picked up an equally nice Gold Shocking Hand Axe of Defense and well so far using axes is fun.

My current hot-key setup is

Disrupting Chop
Dismember
Axe Rake (pvp)
Axe Twist (pvm)
Executioners Strike
Cyclone Axe
Troll Ungent
Apply Poison
Battle Rage (elite)

13 axes (major rune)
12 strenth (minor rune)
10 wilderness survival

Currently with this setup i equip my Gold Axe +13% while health is above 50%
and when i dip below 50% i switch to my Purple Axe +11% while health is below 50% and i use a max defense plain shadow shield.

was just wondering if anybody who plays a W/R has any tips to help keep a person with this setup alive longer OR dish out even more damage

thanks for any input and support

I'd definitely keep penetrating attack there, its requires low adrenile and goes really well with battle rage, makes it a bit spammable and its just good extra damage. Its good for both PvP and PvE because of its armour penetration. Although it maybe costly in energy for you but you can try and see if you can add tigers fury in there, such a good skill and can increase dmg output quite significantly if you have the energy for it (a zealous axe haft should help).

Tiger's Fury is a stance and would overwrite Battle Rage. Since Battle rage can be run almost non-stop, having another stance in there isn't a good idea.

I do think you should replace axe rake/twist and replace it with penetrating blow. I'd take out troll unguent and replace it with antidote signet. I'd take out cyclone and replace it with a rez sig (pvp), and replace disrupting chop in pve and replace it with the rez.
